Board and Train Inquiries have definitely gone up in the past two years. We have colleagues that make a great living just doing Board & Train Programs. I feel like when I talk to people no soon I tell them Evolution Dog Training, does not offer Board and Train Programs for the following reasons:
- I like your dog…well I kind of LOVE your dog. Training is something that should be shared between dog and owner. Doing a Board & Train takes away from that bonding time with your dog. However I don’t want to bond with your dog, I want to show you how to bond with your dog. If we were to offer Board & Trains, the dog is with us for 3-6 weeks, they have a preference and its us. Doing a go home lesson with the owner can help, but that dog will ALWAYS 100% work better with the trainer that had him for 6 weeks.
- I find it to be the lazy way out. If you don’t have time to train your own dog then you might need to rethink if getting a dog at this time of your life is the best thing for you.
- Board & Train Programs are not helping you build up that trusting relationship at all. The quick go-home lessons are not going to magically make your dog like you. Only you can do that. If you don’t have time to meet with a trainer and work on your relationship with your dog then again maybe this isn’t the right time for a dog for you.
- I never say never. Because there are always special circumstances. You can always ask for a Board and Train Service. We look at every situation individually. And some situations would warrant a Board and Train Program.
So get out there and be happy and play with your dog! That is the best time to building up your bond through play. It doesn’t always have to be serious training!!
