Weekly Training Notes 6/10/2018

Well, we had an opportunity this week to train twice with Christina and Diamond. Tuesday I went to their house with Capone and Tia. And I made the sad realization…my IPO handle skills are terrible LOL. Of course, they can get better with more repetition but I was super nervous. I also got some lessons in dogs for myself by Diamond. Training with these two is just amazing. First, let’s talk about Me and Capone. Ok so, first of all, I don’t know how to play with him, I’ve gotta stop being a “Nazi” out there on the field and cut up and play with him. I’m way too serious out there. I guess I get it from how I started out. In AKC Obedience classes it is very cut and dry, no playing with your dog. You are trying to get a behavior from them, that is it. With IPO I am still trying to get a behavior from them but it is my job to convince them its fun enough that they want to offer the behavior instead of being told to do it. I need to play with Capone more and I think we will be ok working together. Homework for the week: I need to play more with Capone. Secondly, Tia did great. She’s coming along on her foundation work. And I am doing a lot better with my timing and rewarding her. She was awesome in protection she wore her new Julius K9 harness. Barking is coming right along. She also has a killer grip, Diamond said, when she bites. She’s still on the rag, she has to work on her mouth and timing to actually bite the rag. She missed it a whole lot. So Homework with Tia was for me to practice my timing and rewarding her, not to be so serious and play with her. Ok, so fast forward to Sunday group training. There weren’t many people there and Daniel got to go because he’s on vacation. In Obedience, we worked more on my timing and Tias focus. She also did well in protection. Capone we worked on ball drive and heeling. He’s doing so well. Protection his bark is getting stronger. I just can’t believe what I’m seeing with him. Here are a few pics of both dogs During protection. Capone Tia Homework for this week. Is to build drive with Tia using the rag over my shoulder. Homework for Capone is to figure out a way to hide the ball from him. So, working on this.
