Weekly Training Notes (Extended Edition)- 6/13/2018

Yay! It’s an extended training notes edition. You know what Dan and I decided to do for our 9 year anniversary? That’s right you guessed it we trained all three IPO phases with Diamond and Christina Hansel. So much happened and so much knowledge was soaked up. We took Capone and Tia. I will discuss what happened by phase. So let’s start with Tracking. We tracked with Christina. We laid 3 straight-lined tracks for both Tia and Capone. Tia did great except she did not appreciate the ants eating her food. She acted so girly about it and it slowed her down a little. Capone did great he needed little help but towards the end he got tired. Christina says we need to start tracking 3-5 times a week. Whew! So it’s time for me get off my lazy butt and wake up early in the mornings and track both dogs. Here are some pictures from our morning of tracking. Tia Tracking: Capone Tracking: Next up was Obedience. Sadly we did not get any pictures but we made a lot of headway. Tia is now working for the rag rather than treats. She gets more excited for the rag. I have homework to get her into the Fuss position using the rag from different angles. She is super focused when I use the rag rather than treats. She even let me heel with my left hand on the other side of her head. When I had treats she didn’t do that she would always look at my hand and not up at me. Capone and Dan did well in obedience. Dan is learning how to hide the ball while heeling and keeping Capone’s focus. Capone really didn’t check out much, but he did. So that’s something to work on. Also, we’ve made the decision that Capone is Dan’s dog so I will no longer be doing obedience with him, only Dan will do that. I can track and right now he’s using a back tie for Protection so I can bring him to training for Tracking and Protection work. I will not be doing obedience with him. Protection was great. They are now biting a puppy sleeve which is awesome. Barking is continuing to get great. They are putting together the command Revere which means to bark. Here are some pictures from Protection: Tia Protection: Tia Protection: All in all, it was a great training day and we learned so much. We are always learning so much from Christina and Diamond. They are gems and I’m so happy to be training with them. They are very nice people and I love the way they explain to us what is going on. So we can better understand why we are doing a certain thing. I think with the foundation things that we are doing we are building a better bond with Tia and Capone. I know on my end when I look into her eyes while we are heeling and we lock eyes it’s like there’s a moment of respect between the two of us. I love it. Happy training! Ellasha
